Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has two years left as chairman but has already named his intended successor.
Leading the club as CEO since 2002, Rummenigge announced former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn will replace him.
“This is also a good time to hand over the baton to Oli Kahn.” Rummenigge said told Sky Sports programme ‘Wontorra’.
“The plan is for Oli to be my successor and to be incorporated by me. He has been a very important player for Bayern, he has taken a second educational path, and is already in business on the road.”
While it is too early for details, the club boss felt comfortable unveiling the plan for 2021.
“I do not think there is a contract at this stage or an established timeline, but the board of directors gave the green light. ”
Kahn currently works in television commentary in Germany for ZDF. He retired from his playing career in 2008 after winning eight Bundesliga titles and the 2001 Champions League title for Bayern Munich.
Rummenigge suggested that Kahn would be phased in gradually with more responsibilities but did not fill that picture in.
“It is important that you build an incredible network, that was easier in the past.”
“Now you jump into the water and have to swim immediately. The media world is very different, but I think he will swim very well in the end.”
