Juventus, Bayern Munich and Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly turned their attention to Manchester United’s potential Erik ten Hag replacements as the managerial merry-go-round goes into full spin.
United are still likely to part ways with Ten Hag after the FA Cup final, with a recent report covered by The Peoples Person suggesting that up to two European outfits believe his fate at Old Trafford is already sealed and he will inevitably be sacked.
Amidst all this, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have been preparing for life without the Dutchman, hence United’s links to several managerial prospects.
Some of the coaches thought to be on the Red Devils’ radar include Thomas Tuchel, Kieran McKenna, Roberto De Zerbi, Thiago Motta, Gareth Southgate, Hansi Flick and Thomas Frank, just to mention a few names.
According to The Independent, United are facing a battle to land De Zerbi and Flick in particular, with Juventus and Bayern eyeing them respectively.
On Saturday, Brighton confirmed that De Zerbi will leave the Amex after tomorrow’s game against United. The feeling was that Bayern would swoop in for him but if Miguel Delaney is to be believed, Juventus is a far likelier destination for the Italian coach.
He’s not the only manager wanted by United that is in danger of being snapped up. Flick, who is understood to be desperate for the United job, is now wanted by Bayern. The Bundesliga giants have found it hard to find someone willing to take over the hot seat at the Allianz Arena and have so far been rejected by the likes of Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick, Julian Nagelsmann, Oliver Glasner, Thomas Tuchel and Roger Schmidt.
Delaney reveals, “Roberto De Zerbi could join Juventus following his Brighton exit, which was announced on the eve of the final day of the Premier League season.”
“And after Juventus dismissed Massimiliano Allegri earlier this week, the former Sassuolo boss could now return to Serie A.”
“Hansi Flick may now emerge as Bayern Munich’s successor to Thomas Tuchel, despite a series of setbacks when discussing the job with numerous candidates.”
The Red Devils are also at serious risk of missing out on the impressive McKenna, whom Brighton have earmarked as someone they’d like to pursue to fill in the vacuum left by De Zerbi.
It was previously stated that United established contact with McKenna’s camp to offer him Ten Hag’s job but the reliable David Ornstein poured cold water on these claims as he suggested a move is unlikely.
However, it’s a worry for United that their options are dwindling. If Ratcliffe and INEOS are still intent on doing away with Ten Hag, it’s important they move with speed and not prolong things.
