Bayern Munich are standing firm over their asking price for Marcel Sabitzer as Man Utd weigh up keeping the Austrian, according to reports.

Sabitzer joined the Red Devils in the January transfer window on loan from Bayern until the end of the season and he’s been showing his worth in recent weeks.

The Austria international joined primarily to provide midfield reinforcements after Christian Eriksen picked up a long-term injury in January.

Sabitzer has been enjoying a more advanced role in recent matches with Bruno Fernandes dropping into a deeper position with the loanee contributing three goals and an assist in his last five matches in all competitions.

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller admitted that the squad at the Allianz Arena were “surprised” that the Bundesliga club had allowed him to leave temporarily.

It has been unclear whether Man Utd want to keep Sabitzer on after this season but The Sun claims that the Austrian’s ‘chances of a long-term stay at Old Trafford depend on Bayern Munich dropping their £25million asking price.’

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag is understood to be ‘keen to keep him’ while Sabitzer has made it clear in recent interviews that he would welcome a stay in Manchester.

Bayern Munich ‘will not stand in his way’ but ‘they are refusing to let him go on the cheap’ as they set his asking price at £25m.

Speaking in an interview with Sport Bild last week, Sabitzer reveals it didn’t take him long to decide on a loan move to Man Utd in January.

“I came here out of nowhere. My only expectation was to replace Christian Eriksen, who suffered an ankle injury,” Sabitzer said.

“Then Casemiro got a red card, and I was immediately promoted. Arriving at Old Trafford is a great feeling, the stadium is legendary.

“I didn’t have to think ten seconds after United called. I said straight away: if the time works, we’ll do it! It was a blatant day: I got the call from my advisor Roger Wittmann at 12 noon.

“I hung up briefly, talked to my fiancée. She said: do it! Now I’m sitting here three months later, and I’m totally satisfied with how it went.”

On a possible long-term stay at Man Utd, Sabitzer added: “Of course my thoughts are on Man United, especially with the trust I get from Erik ten Hag – it’s very positive.
