Gather knowledge for league opener

When the friendly between these two giants of German football was agreed, it was not yet known that Bayern and Gladbach would also be meeting on the opening day of the new Bundesliga season. Nagelsmann can therefore use the match to gather knowledge on the opposition. And of course, the 34-year-old is looking for his first win as Bayern coach. After the defeat against Köln, a young Bayern side put in an improved performance against Ajax to earn a draw.

It will be Julian Nagelsmann's second match as Bayern coach at the Allianz Arena.

The opponents: Borussia Mönchengladbach

After missing out on European qualification last season, Gladbach are looking to go back on the attack. Like Bayern, they have a new man in the dugout in Adi Hütter. The Austrian frequently caused a stir with Eintracht Frankfurt previously, and is now aiming to continue that with the Foals. The team and coach still need to gel, though, with their three friendlies to date producing a draw against Viktoria Köln, a defeat to Paderborn and a win against Metz.

The team news for Bayern vs. Gladbach

The majority of the internationals who were involved at Euro 2020 trained for the first time on Tuesday, but will not yet be involved against Gladbach. Only Serge Gnabry, who already completed an individual session last Friday, could “maybe play 20 minutes”, as Nagelsmann revealed on Saturday after the friendly against Ajax. Therefore several youngsters will get another chance to impress on Wednesday.

The majority of Bayern’s Euro internationals returned to training at Säbener Straße on Tuesday:
