Niklas Süle will not play again this season and miss next summer’s European Championships for Germany.
The defender suffered a cruciate ligament tear on Saturday, the club confirmed on Sunday.
Now, speaking at the start of a new week, Bayern president Uli Hoeneß has dismissed the idea of a quick return.
“He can forget the Euros,” Hoeneß told reporters as Bayern prepared to travel to Greece.
“The season is over [for him].”
Hoeneß also told reporters that the injury will not force the club to make a signing in January.
Süle’s absence will mean summer signings Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard will have to play centrally for the remainder of the season as well as covering left and right-back respectively.
Jérôme Boateng could be brought into the team more regularly again, while teenage defender Lars Lukas Mai signed a new contract last week.
It is Hernandez and Pavard, though, who are likely to start when Bayern play Olympiakos in the Champions League on Tuesday.
