Just a few days after Ralf Rangnick’s cancellation, FC Bayern has suffered the next setback in its search for a new coach. FCB candidate Robert De Zerbi has joined Brighton & Hove Albion. The Italian has emphasised that he does not want to leave the club in the summer.

As several media outlets unanimously reported on Friday, Robert De Zerbi has moved up the Bayern coaching list following Rangnick’s rejection. According to reports, the Munich club have already contacted the 44-year-old in recent days to sound out a possible move in the summer.

However, the chances of signing him are not good. De Zerbi has publicly committed himself to Brighton & Hove Albion: „I would like to stay at Brighton because I love my players, the city, my club and my fans,“ he emphasised in an interview with Sky Sports UK.

„No other club can change that“

The 44-year-old also made it clear that he has already given his word to the Seagulls fans: „I told the fans at a meeting that I won’t change clubs if I’m happy – I want to keep my passion. No other club can change that.“ According to his own statements, De Zerbi would like to speak to Brighton boss Tony Bloom about his future in the near future.

According to rumours, De Zerbi has a release clause in his contract and can leave Brighton early at the end of the season for just under €15 million.

Bayern’s list of coaches is getting smaller

Bayern will most likely have to remove another name from their list. This is likely to annoy Max Eberl in particular. The Munich sporting director is said to be a big fan of De Zerbi and has been in contact with him for weeks. However, due to reservations within Bayern’s management team, contact with De Zerbi was never intensified and talks with other candidates were accelerated.
