Sport Bild (via @bayer04Xtra) reports that Bayer Leverkusen are open to selling Patrick Schick this summer due to an incompatibility in playing styles.
Schick simply does not suit the type of striker that head coach Xabi Alonso is looking for. On top of this, the 28-year-old struggled when it came to fighting for a starting place at Leverkusen, usually shying away from the competition rather than motivating himself to play better.
The arrival of Martin Terrier also does not bode well for Schick on top of the fact that he is the top earner at the club with the Czechia international earning €7.5m a year.
A departure of Schick could mean that Leverkusen looks at buying another striker this summer that is more compatible with Alonso’s style of play. The striker should also be able to complement Victor Boniface better than Schick does.
Since joining Leverkusen in 2020 for €26.5m, Schick has had an up and down time at the BayArena. The 28-year-old’s best season was in 2021/22 when he scored 24 times in 27 Bundesliga games for Die Werkself but since then he has struggled with injury and to reach those heights once again.
