Bayer 04 Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has confirmed defender Piero Hincapie’s presence in north London for an Arsenal medical. The deal to send the Ecuadorian central defender to the Gunners should be confirmed shortly. Hincapie shall count as the ninth player who received significant minutes at the Bundesliga outfit last season to depart the club this summer.
Leverkusen themselves – amid all of the personnel tumult – have opted to quickly pull the plug on their freshly installed coaching regime. Newly appointed B04 head coach Erik ten Hag was sacked by die Werkself after only two matchdays in charge. Rolfes and the rest of the front office staff did not care for ten Hag’s arrogant statements related to the club’s rebuilding project.
Rolfes – quoted by Germany’s Sport Bild tabloid – specifically placed Hincapie in London. The 46-times-capped Ecuadorian international will depart Germany’s red company team after four plus seasons. The 23-year-old only just recently signed a lucrative contract extension with his German club last December.
