Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has hailed Coventry City for their passion following their FA Cup defeat against his former team, taking to X to share his thoughts.

The Red Devils took charge of the semi-final tie, with Scott McTominay scoring in the 23rd minute from close range.

Harry Maguire doubled United's lead in the first minute of stoppage time at the end of the first 45, before Bruno Fernandes added a third just before the hour mark.

Ellis Simms pulled one back in the 71st minute and Callum O'Hare's deflected shot gave the Sky Blues real hope.

It looked as though United would hold on, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka's handball gave Haji Wright the chance to equalise from the penalty spot in the fifth minute of added time.

This was a chance the American took - and they nearly won it in extra-time, with Simms' strike hitting the crossbar and Victor Torp having a goal chalked off for offside.

Initially going ahead in the shootout, they were beaten on penalties in the end with Callum O'Hare having his spot-kick saved and Ben Sheaf skying his.

They may have been on the wrong end of the scoreline in the end, but the Sky Blues can be incredibly proud of how far they have come, performing admirably throughout their FA Cup journey.

Bastian Schweinsteiger on Coventry City following Manchester United heartbreak

Many people came out on social media to congratulate Mark Robins' side for their comeback and performance against United, including ex-Red Devil Schweinsteiger, who had plenty of praise for the Championship club.

X: "An incredible Emirates FA Cup semi-final between Coventry City and Manchester United.

"Congrats Red Devils for reaching the finals against Man City but I have to say thank you very much Coventry City for warming up my football heart again.

"Your passion for football and all the emotions are the example for every football player and supporter of a team."

Coventry City can be very proud of their achievements

From the very start of the competition, they looked excellent.

Their 6-2 win against Oxford United was fully deserved, with the Sky Blues showing real class that day to secure a thumping win.

The U's didn't perform too badly that day, but Coventry were just a level above Des Buckingham's side.

They have also shone throughout the competition and showed real character at 3-0 down yesterday.

Getting back to 3-3 was a remarkable achievement and many people would say that they deserved to win the tie in the end.

They may not have booked a place in the final, but they can be extremely proud of what they have done, especially without the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Gus Hamer who were nothing short of brilliant last season.

There's plenty for the Sky Blues to be excited about, even if they don't secure a place in the play-offs at the end of this season.
