Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City squad have quickly gotten to work ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup campaign beginning on Wednesday. Pep Guardiola’s side will take on Wydad AC in their opening Group G fixture of the tournament. After arriving in the United States on Thursday, Pep Guardiola and his team have wasted no time in getting straight to work.
There was plenty of news to come out of Manchester City’s training session yesterday. Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki all trained with their new teammates. The work has begun to integrate all three players into Pep Guardiola’s squad.
In images shared on mancity.com, John Stones was pictured training with his teammates. The England international hasn’t played for Manchester City since their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. Stones remains on the comeback trail from the thigh injury he sustained in February. But the fact that he is training suggests that he is nearing a return to the pitch.
Pep Guardiola and his team will continue their preparations ahead of their opening game of the Club World Cup over the weekend. Given that their first game isn’t until Wednesday, there is plenty of time for the City squad to integrate new signings and build their way into their opening fixture of the tournament.
They will be hoping to begin their campaign with a victory in Philadelphia. Wydad AC will be eyeing an upset against one of the tournament favourites in Manchester City. But if Pep Guardiola’s side can pick up all three points at Lincoln Financial Field it could kickstart their Club World Cup campaign.
