20-year-old strongly linked with move to the Blues
FC Basel have confirmed midfielder Renato Veiga is in talks with another club.
The 20-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, who are said to be closing in on a deal worth around £12m.
Veiga made 26 appearances for the Swiss giants last season and is able to operate as a centre-back, a left-back or a defensive midfielder.
The Lisbon-born star came through the academy ranks with hometown club Sporting CP but joined Basel in 2023 after a loan spell with German side FC Augsburg.
An international at Portugal U21 level, he is the son of former Cape Verde star, Nelson Veiga.
Basel are currently on a pre-season training camp in Austria and confirmed Veiga had left in order to hold talks with another club.
“Renato Veiga has left the training camp - he is in talks with another club,” read a statement.
It has been another busy summer for the Blues, who have already signed five players.
They recently concluded a deal for Barcelona youngster Marc Guiu, following Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo and Omari Kellyman through the door.
Brazilian youngster Estevao Willian will also join from Palmeiras next season.
