The Scotsman perhaps isn't the flashiest of players, but he's been great for the club since joining from Scunthorpe United in the summer of 2018, and continues to be an important player nearly six years after moving to The Den.

Millwall paid just £500k to bring him to the club, and it's proved an absolute bargain with Wallace being a fantastic servant for the Lions.

His injury has come at the worst possible time, but he'll no doubt play a big role when he regains full fitness next season, and he'll be hoping his next game for the club isn't in League One.

Having signed from League One side Scunthorpe United, Millwall supporters were unsure what to expect from the Scottish age-grade international, but it wasn't long until he proved his worth.

Wallace was signed by Neil Harris, who coincidentally is the club's manager now too, and despite missing the last two months of the season through injury, the Scotsman made 27 appearances in total, and scored four times during the 2018/19 season, a decent return for a defender.

However, the following season was when Wallace really began to thrive, and he managed to stay injury free as he played 47 games for the Lions, as they finished 8th in the Championship, just two points from the play-off places.

The 2020/21 season would see Wallace hampered by injuries yet again, but when he was fit and available, he was a regular starter for the Lions, playing 26 games.

The former Scunthorpe man has really shown his versatility in recent seasons and is able to play left-back, centre-back and has even featured in midfield, so he must be a manager's dream.

He won crowned the club's player of the season for the 2021/22 season, after making 44 appearances and scoring six goals.

This earnt him a new long-term deal at The Den, and Millwall supporters are likely to see much more of Wallace in the seasons to come.

However, this season has been a little more difficult for Wallace, and he found himself on the bench more often under Joe Edwards.

Despite this, he still made 31 appearances prior to suffering a back injury which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.

With Millwall battling relegation, losing a player like Murray Wallace is a huge blow.

Neil Harris would have wanted every experienced player fit and at his disposal, and at 31 and with over 200 appearances for Millwall to his name, Wallace certainly fits the bill as someone with plenty of experience.

Manager Neil Harris couldn't hide his disappointment that Wallace had been ruled out, and he said, “Murray Wallace came off with a back injury [against Rotherham]. He’s fractured his back, so he’s going to be out for the season unfortunately, which is a big blow when you have no Joe Bryan at the moment.”

Millwall are currently in the midst of a relegation battle, and whilst their recent win over Leicester City was huge for them, they're certainly not out of the woods yet.

They face four cup finals between now and the end of the season, and every point is crucial if they're to remain in the division.

There's now nothing Wallace can do apart from watch and hope that his side don't get relegated to League One for next season.

He's been a fantastic addition to the Millwall side over the last few seasons and doesn't deserve to be in League One. It's up to his teammates to make sure that doesn't happen.
