Rumours have been rife in recent weeks that Barcelona are showing interest in signing Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP.
It’s easy to see why, with 23 goals and four assists in 18 appearances so far this season, there are no strikers as prolific as Gyökeres in Europe this season.
However, as per Diario Sport, whether Barcelona make a move or not could rest on their current number 9, Robert Lewandowski.
With 19 goals in 17 appearances so far this season, the prolific Pole has been in some fine form of his own, and could easily change the plans of Deco and co.
If Lewandowski should continue his fine form throughout the rest of the season and into the next, questions may arise around whether Gyökeres would be willing to share the limelight should he make a move.
The alternative is that Lewandowski’s form might drop off next season, and if Barça don’t make a move now they could be left without a world-class striker.
The great form of Lewandowski presents Barcelona with some difficult decisions to make over the coming weeks and months.
