Barcelona picked up another pre-season victory on Saturday after beating NY Red Bulls 2-0 in the United States.
Scorers: Dembélé 40′, Memphis 87′
While it was one-way traffic at Red Bull Arena, the hosts gave Barcelona a run for their money thanks to a strong defensive performance and it took up until just half-time for the visitors to break the deadlock.
On the hunt for his first goal for the club, Robert Lewandowski was teed up on multiple occasions but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Instead, it was Ousmane Dembélé who eventually slotted the ball past Carlos Coronel just before the break. That’s now three goals in two games for the Frenchman.
Coming out into the second half last ditch defending continued to be a theme for the MLS club as Coronel, Frankie Amaya, and Daniel Edelman prevented Memphis Depay, Ansu Fati and others from adding a second.
However, the hosts were forced to end the match with 10 men after Edelman was shown a straight red for a challenge on Pablo Torre.
And with the late advantage Barcelona put away another chance when Memphis slotted the ball into an empty net and wrapped up a 2-0 win.
Xavi’s side now take on Pumas for the Joan Gamper Trophy on Sunday before kicking off the LaLiga season.
