Barcelona are going into the new season with a rather complete squad as the club have done very well to add depth in almost all areas of the pitch.
However, one position which still lacks depth is the fullback department, where the club do not have a proven alternative for Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde.
The Catalans, therefore, are mostly counting on their young players to serve as backups. To that end, the future of three players has come into focus: Gerard Martin, Jofre Torrents and Hector Fort.
A recent report from COPE (h/t FCB World) has offered a fresh update on the future of these youngsters, explaining Barcelona’s stance on each of the players.
As per the report, Barcelona are counting on Gerard Martin, who is expected to receive a first-team spot next season.

Martin is expected to serve as the main alternative for Balde at left-back, with Jofre Torrents potentially being the third option.
Barcelona rate both Torrents and Martin quite highly, though Torrents is still young and the club are willing to give him the valuable time to further his game.
Barcelona are indeed in no rush to move Torrents up the ranks, especially with Martin being an able backup for Balde.
As far as Fort is concerned, the Catalans are not too keen on keeping hold of the young right-back, perhaps due to his lack of impact last season.
A recent report suggests Barça are looking for a fee of around €5 million for Fort, although the club also appear to be open to a loan deal so that he can further his progress elsewhere.
