After what has been a memorable transfer window so far, Barcelona have been planning to add gloss to it by making a few more signings before the trading period closes in a couple of weeks.
And at the top of the Catalan giants’ wishlist for the remainder of the transfer window is Manchester City superstar Bernardo Silva. The 28-year-old has been on the club’s agenda for a long time now and efforts are being made to try and sign him up.
It has been reported that negotiations are underway with the Cityzens while the footballer himself is believed to be keen on joining Barça. The former Benfica ace even appeared to wave goodbye to fans at the Etihad after City’s Premier League game against Bournemouth.
However, as per a fresh update on the cover page of the August 16 edition of Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s move for Bernardo Silva has been cast into doubt due to several factors.
For starters, Manchester City are unwilling to lower their valuation of their star midfielder, as they will continue to demand a massive sum of €100 million for the 28-year-old.
Given Barcelona’s current situation, generating such a huge sum to fund a move for Silva would require them to make at least one high-profile sale. While they are prepared to do by sanctioning an exit for Frenkie de Jong, the midfielder is reluctant to leave.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is another candidate who could be sold amidst interest from Chelsea, but the striker is also not keen on an exit while manager Xavi Hernandez would also prefer to keep hold of him as Memphis Depay is already leaving the club.
So, as things stand, a move for Silva is very much complicated and will require multiple determining factors to go in Barcelona’s way for it to materialise this summer.
