Andreas Christensen scored a calamitous own goal to help Valladolid take the lead against Barcelona in La Liga.

The Danish defender attempted to defend an inswinging cross in just the second minute but saw his diving header diverted straight into his own net.

There's no denying it was a fantastic header from Christensen – it was just unfortunately at the wrong end.

Valladolid earn vital victory

And Christensen's error proved to be costly, as Valladolid emerged deserving 3-1 victors.

Canada's Cyle Larin and Ecuador's Gonzalo Plata put the home side 3-0 up, before Robert Lewandowski restored some pride with a neat finish.

Victory for Valladolid takes them out of the relegation zone and above both Getafe and Espanyol.

Indeed, with just two league games remaining, Valladolid are now three points above Getafe and four above Espanyol.

With Paulo Pezzalano's side scheduled to face Getafe in their final game of the season, it's shaping up to be a thrilling relegation battle.

Barcelona underwhelming but still champions

Barcelona have already claimed this year's La Liga title and there was certainly a sense that the players were not feeling quite as motivated as usual.

Indeed, Xavi's team were lacklustre throughout and lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.

But even despite the loss, Barcelona remain 13 points ahead of Atletico Madrid in second place.

While the Catalonian side suffered a disappointing exit in Europe, this has still been an impressive season and is the first time they've won the league since Lionel Messi departed the club.
