With a little over two days left before the summer transfer window comes to an end, Barcelona youngster Fermin Lopez continues to face an uncertain future.

In many ways, this has developed into the saga of the summer over the past week, with Chelsea pressing to sign the 22-year-old, while Barça intend to keep hold of him.

Today’s developments saw Chelsea lodge an official €40 million bid to sign Fermin – a proposal that drew no reaction from the Catalan giants.

Fermin still undecided

As for Fermin, SPORT reports that Fermin is still unsure where he will play this season, with the clock ticking – the transfer window in La Liga shuts on Monday at precisely 23:59.

The truth is, Barcelona gave him 48 hours to make a decision. That deadline has already expired, and Fermin has yet to resolve the mystery.

The 22-year-old allegedly had a plan to release a statement on Friday afternoon announcing his decision, but nothing happened then, nor on Saturday.

The doubts remain lodged in the La Masia graduate’s mind, which is why he has chosen not to speak out for now.

Fermin also met with Barcelona manager Hansi Flick on Saturday morning, and while the manager felt the youngster would stay, there were no guarantees or assurances given.

As such, there is a growing sense of unease within the club over the prolonged uncertainty. The sporting department, led by Flick, is adamant about wanting Fermin to stay.

However, the delay from the youngster only breathes life into Chelsea’s pursuit. The Blues are expected to return with a higher bid in the coming hours, and it remains to be seen how things pan out.
