As Barcelona gear up for the new season, with training set to kickstart tomorrow, the club are actively looking for reinforcements in key areas of the pitch.

One of the problem areas is the fullback position, with the club simply lacking quality alternatives for first-choice options in Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde.

While Hector Fort and Gerard Martin have shown up whenever asked, they haven’t yet shown that the x-factor needed to make the leap.

Jofre Torrents gunning for a breakthrough

One player who could make that leap, however, is Jofre Torrents – Barcelona’s latest youth prospect looking to make a breakthrough in the first team.

Torrents, 18, is highly rated by La Masia coaches and has been on the club’s internal list of profiles that have everything to reach the top, reports Diario SPORT.

While names like Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi made their leaps quickly, the club has preferred a calmer approach with Torrents, especially following a season affected by injuries.

He eventually found form and consistency at Barça Atletic, owning the left flank in a difficult campaign. His performances earned praise not just from coaches, but teammates as well.

Before the summer break, Hansi Flick personally informed Torrents that he would be part of the first team’s pre-season.

The door is open, and if he impresses, a promotion and even a first-team debut could soon follow.

For now, though, Torrents would ideally look to take things slowly and focus on a gradual development story rather than being desperate to prove a point.

That said, the upcoming pre-season training and matches could indeed go a long way in helping the youngster make a solid impression and possibly even emerge as a viable option for coach Flick.
