In a recent print edition, Sport journalist Ruben Uria revealed that Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele could be tempted with a move to Newcastle United. It is understood that the Catalans wing wizard wants to ‘get rich’ which could open the door for the Magpies to acquire his services.

Dembele’s Recent Injury Struggles At Catalonia This Season

Dembele has been sidelined for most of this campaign because of a knee problem and later, a hamstring injury that has once again hampered his progress at the Nou Camp. The French sensation has only made three senior appearances for the Catalans this season, receiving a total of 73 minutes of playing time across all fronts.

The Vernon-born wide player had a far more productive spell in the previous campaign when he registered 11 goals and five assists in 44 matches for Barca in all competitions. Dembele gave a good account of himself in the final third by averaging 1.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2019-20 La Liga season. He was also excellent when linking up play with others around him in the opponent’s half, based on his pass completion rate of 85.8% in league football (stats via whoscored).

Is Dembele A Good Option For Newcastle United?

Dembele has decent pace under his belt and can make some quick dashes with the ball out on the wide areas. He can set up some promising openings for his teammates in the final third and is usually a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when is playing with confidence on the field.

However, Dembele’s spell at Barcelona has been ravaged by injuries, so he will be a risky acquisition for Newcastle to pursue next year. Having said that, the Magpies have the finances to lure the France international to St. James’ Park by offering him a lucrative contract and a signing bonus as well.

There is no denying that Dembele will be a dream option for the Tyneside outfit if the player can find a way to steer clear of injuries. He has the quality to help Eddie Howe’s side get out of relegation trouble and fight for a top-half finish in the Premier League over the next few seasons.
