FC Barcelona will kick off their 2025/26 La Liga campaign later today against Mallorca away at Son Moix.

While the Blaugrana were able to resolve their registration issues and ensure that both Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford are eligible to play today, they have encountered some problems with their kit for the game.

Barcelona to play in the third kit from last season

On Saturday morning, Barcelona shared the traditional “Matchday” graphic on social media, which, as usual, gave a clue about the kit the team would wear at Son Moix.

What surprised fans was that the official image showed Lamine Yamal, Ronald Araujo and Pedri wearing last season’s third kit, sparking confusion as to why none of the new kits would be used.

As confirmed by SPORT, Barcelona will begin the 2025/26 season wearing a kit that does not belong to any of the three new designs for the new campaign, two of which were already unveiled this summer.

As per the report, the final choice of the kit does not depend directly on the club. The decision rests with La Liga’s match director, who validates the proposals submitted in advance by both clubs through the competition’s official “Kit Selector” application.

Ultimately, if an irregularity arises on matchday before kick-off, it is the main referee, in coordination with the Referees’ Technical Committee (CTA), who has the authority to enforce a change and ensure compliance with approved combinations.

The team will not wear the classic Blaugrana stripes – a frequent decision when facing Mallorca, whose red kit can cause confusion, particularly on television with Barcelona’s gradient colours.

The second kit, inspired by Kobe Bryant, whose gold shirt combined with black shorts and socks clashes with the home side’s colours in the lower half of the outfit. As such, it was also ruled out

The third design was also rejected. This kit, still not officially debuted, brings back an orange shade reminiscent of the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons, with a vintage feel and designed under inspiration from Nike’s iconic Total 90 line of the mid-2000s.

As a result, Barça will begin their new season donning the third kit from the previous campaign and not any of the three new kits for the 2025/26 campaign.

The report further adds that Barcelona will be unable to wear their new kits in the second matchday against Levante either, where the same issue of colour clashes, forcing them to once again wear last season’s third kit.
