Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen is not giving up his place at the club without a fight.

In fact, according to SPORT, the club’s captain is determined to stay and compete for the starting spot under Hansi Flick, even after the arrival of Joan Garcia and the extension of Wojciech Szczesny.

His message to the club is clear that he is not going anywhere, at least not yet.

The much-awaited meeting

In the coming days, a crucial meeting is expected between Ter Stegen, Hansi Flick, and sporting director Deco. Barcelona want to lay things out clearly that they no longer count on the German as their first-choice goalkeeper.

He would only be called up if Garcia or Szczesny are unavailable due to injuries or suspensions. Still, Ter Stegen is standing firm.

Despite interest from several clubs willing to match his wages, he has no intention of accepting a free release.

His goal is to stay at least until January and assess the situation again, especially with the 2026 World Cup in sight.

A strained relationship

The goalkeeper still has three years left on his contract and feels betrayed by how things were handled. He believes the club failed to communicate their intentions honestly from the start.

Barcelona are expected to offer him a letter of freedom or a possible loan exit to free up wages. However, Ter Stegen is demanding full payment for the remainder of his contract.

If the club refuses, he is ready to remain until January, fully committed to regaining his place.

By then, he hopes performances will speak for themselves. If Flick continues to back Garcia no matter what, Ter Stegen could look for a loan or a free move to a club where he can play regularly and stay in top shape for Germany.

For now, though, he is staying put and ready to fight, even if it means going against the tide.
