Barcelona unhappy with Uruguay over Ronald Araujo’s handling, could lodge complaint with FIFA | OneFootball

Before the start of the FIFA World Cup, Barcelona had reached an agreement with the Uruguayan Football Federation (AUF) over Ronald Araujo’s fitness plan.

The nature of the agreement was that the defender would only be a part of the Uruguayan team just to form the group and potentially increase the morale of the troops. A further clause entailed that his recovery process will also be monitored by two physiotherapists from Barcelona.

The premise of the agreement was that Barcelona were going to have control over Araujo’s participation in the World Cup and his return to the pitch will strictly depend on their medical staff.

However, even though Uruguay are yet to kickstart their World Cup campaign, Barça have learnt that their two physios are finding it difficult to conduct their operation and monitor Araujo’s fitness due to internal pressure from AUF, reports SPORT.

It appears the Uruguayans are keen on fast-tracking the recovery of Araujo, who is one of the most crucial defensive players for the nation.

Uruguay manager Diego Alonso recently provided an update on the 23-year-old’s fitness saying: “In principle, Ronald is working better and better every day, he is evolving. It is the body that will tell us when he is fit. He is evolving and we are very happy with how he is doing.”

The report suggests Araujo has not been able to carry out the recovery guidelines that were set by the physios. The Uruguayan camp has opted to speed up his recovery and increase his training parameters, potentially putting the defender at risk of aggravating his injury.

Barcelona, upon their knowledge of the breach, have threatened to lodge a formal complaint to FIFA against AUF for not following the agreement, claims SPORT. The same claim has been made by RAC1 as well.

For the time being, Barcelona have opted to request the Uruguayan football federation to respect the guidelines and parameters of the agreement. However, if the AUF continues to breach the agreement, Barcelona could seek legal measures.

Uruguay will kickstart their World Cup campaign on November 24, when they take on South Korea at the Education City Stadium. Portugal and Ghana are their other opponent in Group H.
