Barcelona reportedly have 19 players on their transfer wishlist despite crashing out of the Champions League earlier this week.

Spanish outlet, Sport, claims that Xavi will look to make two signings for Barca this January and proceeded to list the 19 contenders.

Earlier this month, president Joan Laporta backed Xavi and hinted at some new signings in January.

Laporta backs Xavi

“There is total confidence in Xavi,” Laporta confirmed. “He is a great coach and he will surely go on and give us great success in the future.

“He knows the club perfectly, he knows how we play and he is ideal for Barca. He has our support and he knows it, and it’s important that he knows there is this trust so that things go well.

“We are working with the coach, the technical secretariat, and the director of football for this winter market.

“We have been analyzing things for some time and the team will be improved if we have the chance to do so.

“We are in a sporting project [that is] under construction [and] is settling down over time, but everything can be improved. Now a market window is coming and we are clear that we can improve the team.

“The project must always have the chance to improve and that’s what we should do.”

However, there were fresh concerns over the club’s finances after they crashed out of the Champions League group stages. A 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich compounded their misery.

But SPORT have suggested that Barca will sign two players in January – and went on to list the 19 different options they have.

They are:

Barcelona’s list of 19 transfer targets in January

  • Dani Parejo (Villarreal)
  • Declan Rice (West Ham)
  • Diogo Dalot (Manchester United)
  • Fabinho (Liverpool)
  • Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)
  • Guido Rodríguez (Real Betis)
  • James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)
  • Jorginho (Chelsea)
  • Juan Foyth (Villarreal)
  • Leon Goretzka (Bayern Munich)
  • Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad)
  • N’Golo Kante (Chelsea)
  • Rodri Hernández (Manchester City)
  • Rubén Neves (Wolves)
  • Sandro Tonali (AC Milan)
  • Stephane Singo (Torino)
  • Thomas Meunier (Borussia Dortmund)
  • Vanderson (Monaco)
  • Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester)

As you can see from the list of 19 players, Barca are keen to sign a right back and a central midfielder with the majority of the targets being able to play in those positions.

Any potential signing will have to accept playing Europa League football in the New Year with the Camp Nou club guaranteed to finish 3rd in their Champions League group behind Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

However, they will be among the favourites for that European trophy while they’re still very much in the La Liga title race as they sit three points behind Real Madrid at the top of the table. Their only defeat came against Real in El Clasico.

While this may not be the Barcelona of yesteryear, there’s no doubt most of the 19 transfer targets would jump at the chance to join Blaugrana under Xavi.

Whether or not they have the finances to make the transfers work is another matter altogether…
