The future of Andreas Christensen has come into focus this week, with Barcelona reportedly considering the possibility of sanctioning a sale.

It appears Barça view Christensen as a good source of revenue considering he joined the club on a free transfer market and has a significant market.

Barcelona, therefore, can utilise the defender’s sale this summer to bring in fresh faces, especially in the defensive midfield unit.

However, Barça are not entirely enthusiastic about selling Christensen and the final decision will ultimately be made by the player.

Christensen wants to stay at Barcelona

To that end, a recent report from Diario SPORT suggests that Andreas Christensen only has one thing on his mind – to stay at Barcelona.

The Dane is not thinking about moving elsewhere in the coming summer and wants to fight for his place in the team.

The defender’s main objective is to overcome his Achilles problem next season so that he can be of service, either in the defensive midfield or in central defensive roles.

What will be Christensen’s role next season?

Speaking of next season, lines are quite blurred as far as Andreas Christensen’s role in the Barcelona team is concerned.

The Dane has performed admirably in the holding role this season, but Barcelona are keen on singing a more natural option in the position, with Guido Rodriguez emerging as a likely target.

Recent reports indicate that Xavi wants Christensen to return to his old central defensive role next season, especially in the midst of uncertainty over the future of Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde.

Christensen’s versatility, experience and tactical flexibility could indeed make him a valuable asset for Barça, provided, of course, he stays at Camp Nou this summer.
