The coaching staff at La Liga giants Barcelona have been left to sweat over the wellbeing of another two key members of the club’s squad, ahead of this weekend’s season opener.
Barca, of course, marked their return to action on Monday night.
In the final fixture of the club’s pre-season schedule, the Blaugrana played host to AS Monaco, in the annual Joan Gamper Trophy.
When all was said and done, Hansi Flick’s troops were condemned to a heavy defeat, by three goals to nil.
And yet, as alluded to above, the eventual result proved far from the only concern for Barcelona on the night.
In addition, just five days out from his side’s La Liga opener, boss Fiick saw two leading figures in his squad forced into premature departures.
Robert Lewandowski came first, after a heavy fall on his wrist, with the frontman having then been followed down the tunnel shortly after by İlkay Gündoğan, who sustained an unfortunate blow to the head.
Barcelona are yet to provided an update on the wellbeing of either, as the absentee list in Catalunya’s capital risks spiralling completely out of control before the campaign has even begun.
