As per a report relayed by Sky Sports journalist Matteo Moreno, the priority of French forward Antoine Griezmann is to stay in Spain. At the moment, the Frenchman doesn’t consider a move to the English Premier League, Serie A or any other leagues outside La Liga.

This means a few things. First and foremost, any rumour involving Griezmann and either of the Manchester clubs is null and void. Pep Guardiola reportedly wanted to buy the forward to partner Harry Kane, and it seems as though no such move will happen.

Furthermore, the Frenchman remaining at Barcelona seems all the more likely now. With talks of a swap deal between Barcelona and Atletico de Madrid now swept under the rug, he could remain at the Catalan capital for at least one more year.

Finally, if at all he does part ways with the Blaugrana, then it is widely known that his heart is set on a return to Atletico. He has already trained with the first team, but the transfer window is a month away from closing, and such a deal could still happen.

There is perhaps a conflict of interests. Atleti manager and coach Diego Simeone had this to say: “Above all, for what he gave Atletico, I want him to do well at Barcelona, he is an extraordinary player.” He added that he wishes nothing else but him [Griezmann] “triumphing at Barcelona.”

Nevertheless, Los Colchoneros know that Griezmann intends to return to them should he depart. With the Catalans stripped for cash, they will either make due with what they have or send the Frenchman to their fierce rivals for the second year running.
