The Whites sold the 26-year old for a reported £50m, potentially rising to £55 million in add-ons. The sale of Raphinha, and subsequently Kalvin Phillips was enough for Leeds to retool the squad for the 2022/23 season.
Unfortunately the club suffered relegation for a torrid season, after signing almost 11 new players during the summer and hiring three coaches during the season.
Raphinha’s first season in Spain was a decent one, with the winger contributing 10 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.
A report from Catalan outlet Ara now claim that Barcelona owe hundreds of millions in transfer fees across Europe, including Raphinha’s move from Leeds:
“In the case of Leeds, Barça still owes him so much money that the English entity factored its right to collect through a financial institution. This basically means that it is a bank that advances the amount in exchange for interest.”
The report claims Barcelona owe The Whites around €38million (£32.86m) is , with £20.75million of that being described as a “short-term” debt.
This reportedly means that the fee will need to be paid soon by Barcelona to Leeds United, after they required a bank to front the debt with The Whites.
