However, concerns mount for Xavi, who is likely to field an XI without the enlistment of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

While the German is very eager to make his comeback in the colossal encounter, his return is clouded with uncertainty.

Ter Stegen still not in training

Recent information from Alex Pintanel states that Ter Stegen is still not training with the group two days before the match against Atletico Madrid.

As only a couple of days remain, the chances of Ter Stegen guarding the sticks dwindle by the moment.

Every day, Ter Stegen tests and assesses his condition to determine how his lower back discomfort is progressing.

Although the idea of taking painkillers has been floated, it is obvious that no one wants to exacerbate the injury and make matters worse.

The German’s former teammate has also advised not to rush the process, with goalkeepers required to be at 100 percent before returning from injuries, particularly those related to the back.

Inaki Pena the likely candidate

In light of the situation at hand, Ter Stegen’s replacement, Inaki Pena, is likely to feature once more and take on the massive responsibility of defending Barcelona’s goal against the Rojiblancos.

After a highly encouraging performance against Porto, it is deemed that Pena is a dependable player worthy enough to start the big game.

Because of his strong exhibition, reports have previously argued that Ter Stegen would need to be judged to be 100% fit in order to replace Inaki Pena in the starting lineup, which is unlikely given how soon Barcelona and Atletico Madrid play.
