Napoli thought they would drop points after a frustrating night against Cagliari, until Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa’s last-gasp winner.
The reigning Champions of Italy started with a 2-0 win away to Sassuolo and here had their first home game, with Romelu Lukaku and Miguel Gutierrez still out of action, and Rasmus Hojlund on his way from Manchester United. The Sardinians missed Leonardo Pavoletti after a last-gasp 1-1 draw with Fiorentina, but Michael Folorunsho, Elia Caprile, Gianluca Gaetano and Sebastiano Luperto returned to their former club. Marco Palestra was thrown straight into the starting XI.

Lorenzo Lucca at full stretch just failed to connect with a Leonardo Spinazzola cross to the back post, while Scott McTominay shrugged off two defenders before the shot was charged down by Yerry Mina.
Cagliari were diligent in defending on crosses and set plays, then even managed to threaten when a cross skimmed the head of Sebastiano Esposito.
Kevin De Bruyne fired just over from the edge of the box on a Spinazzola lay-off, but Matteo Prati should’ve done better with a header off target from Palestra’s cross.

McTominay had a moment of magic when dribbling between two defenders and holding off a third, so he could sting Caprile’s gloves at the near post.
Napoli had a double chance on a set play with Amir Rrahmani, as he scuffed the first finish, then saw the second attempt charged down from close range.
Spinazzola twisted and turned to create space and drilled low at the near post, forcing a fantastic Caprile reaction save with one hand.
Matteo Politano robbed former teammate Folorunsho and his curler skimmed the crossbar to land on the roof of the net.
Cagliari came close too, as Folorunsho and Borrelli both came sliding in, unable to connect with a dangerous Zito Luvumbo cross from six yards.

Caprile also managed to pluck a dangerous Politano cross off the head of De Bruyne at the far post, while Alessandro Buongiorno’s header was over from a corner.
Noa Lang nearly scored with his first touch, as he and Stanislav Lobotka harassed Yerry Mina into an error inside the Cagliari penalty area, but the finish was deflected wide.
McTominay had a huge chance in stoppages when found by the Lang lay-off, but was off balance and only meekly prodded it into the arms of Caprile.
Politano then stood up the cross for an acrobatic McTominay volley deflected, but from the resulting corner there was a dramatic winner.
Alessandro Buongiorno rolled it across low from the left, finding Anguissa ready to sweep in first time with the inside of the right boot from 12 yards.
