A headline member of Xavi’s Barcelona squad has today been forced to pull out of international duty.

The name of versatile defender Christensen of course took its place front and centre in the chatter surrounding Barcelona late last night.

As much came after the 27-year-old was a last-minute scratch from the club’s starting XI to face Atlético Madrid.

Speaking to the media post-match, boss Xavi went on to reveal that Christensen was suffering with discomfort in his Achilles, with he and his coaching staff having opted not to risk the former Chelsea man as a result.

As alluded to above, though, the problem has since proven significant enough to force Christensen out of the upcoming international break.

As confirmed in an official statement on the part of the Danish FA:

‘Andreas Christensen unfortunately has to miss the upcoming matches with a minor injury. National coach Kasper Hjulmand has instead selected Brøndby’s Jacob Rasmussen, who may make his debut for the men’s national team.

‘Get well for AC, and a big welcome to Jacob.’

Christensen is nevertheless expected to be available to feature in Barcelona’s next outing, against Las Palmas on Saturday, March 30th.
