The last night saw Spain advance to the semi-finals of the UEFA EURO 2024 as they defeated Germany with a 2-1 scoreline in extra time. The Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal was once again decisive for his national side as he created the first goal that was scored by Dani Olmo.

However, unfortunately, another Barcelona player, Pedri, did not get the chance to shine a lot in this match. He did start the match for Luis de la Fuente’s side but had to leave the pitch only three minutes after kick-off due to an injury.

The injury came after a hard tackle by the German midfielder Toni Kroos. While this action led to an injury to Pedri, the referee did not even show a yellow card to the former Real Madrid midfielder.

The Canary Islander returned to the pitch after receiving some treatment but had to leave with a substitution after another five minutes as it was clear he could not carry on playing the game. Dani Olmo, who opened the score in this game, was introduced for Pedri by De la Fuente.

Although not very desirable, Mundo Deportivo has noted that Pedri ended up creating a new record with this sequence of events, as he unintentionally became the earliest player to have been substituted in a UEFA EURO game.

No other player has lasted this short time on the pitch, and the previous holder of this record was the French winger Franck Ribery, who had to leave the pitch after 10 minutes due to an injury in the UEFA EURO 2008 group stage match against Italy.

Initial reports on the player indicated that Pedri had suffered an internal sprain in his left knee, and is expected to remain on the sidelines for a period of time that can range from one week to one month.
