Having navigated the summer transfer window, FC Barcelona have now turned their focus towards securing contract renewals for some of their key players, whose deals run out in the next couple of years.

Speaking at the Thinking Football Summit, Barcelona director Deco confirmed as much, while providing an update on the contract situations of two very important superstars in Pedri and Lamine Yamal.

Both Pedri and Yamal have contracts at Barcelona that expire in 2026, meaning they would enter the final year of their respective deals next summer.

Barcelona already working on Pedri’s renewal

Pedri is one of the most important players for Barcelona and has shown signs of returning to his best form this season after enduring an injury-riddled campaign last time out.

Given how much of a key cog he is in Hansi Flick and Barça’s plans for the present and the future, the club want to tie him down to a new long-term deal as soon as possible.

And, Deco, during the interview, confirmed as much when asked about the Spanish international’s contract situation, saying (h/t AS): “We are working on that at the club.”

Not worried about Yamal

Meanwhile, as mentioned above, Yamal’s contract with Barcelona also expires in 2026, but Deco insisted that the club are not at all worried about that, as he said:

“Lamine is under contract. After that, it’s all quiet at Barcelona.”

When asked if it means that Barça do not foresee any problems with the situation, the former Portugal international replied: “Peace of mind.”

As has already been reported, even though Yamal’s contract expires in 2026, Barcelona already have a pact with the player and his agent, Jorge Mendes, over a renewal until 2030 as soon as he turns 18 years old.

As such, it is not a surprise that Deco is not at all concerned about the 17-year-old sensation’s contract, more so considering that Yamal himself said in an interview that he wants to stay at Barcelona for the rest of his career and become a club legend.
