Barcelona rule out January signing despite considering moves for Arsenal, Real Betis midfielders | OneFootball

It has been well-known for a long while that Barcelona have been looking to sign a midfielder in the January transfer window, but Financial Fair Play issues have been a major hindrance.

However, the recent season-ending injury to Alejandro Balde opened the doors for the Catalans to make a short-term emergency loan signing before the window slammed shut.

In fact, reports earlier today suggested that Barcelona were already looking at the Premier League and La Liga markets to sign a player on loan by utilising the Fair Play margin created by Balde’s injury.

Barcelona not considering any signings

However, as per the latest update from SPORT, Barcelona have decided not to make any signings in the January transfer window even though they had the possibility of doing so due to the long-term absence of Balde.

The sporting department made an effort to rope in someone, but the little economic margin the Blaugrana have with the saving of the full-back’s salary makes the arrival of a player, who can boost the team’s quality, difficult.

Barça were somewhat optimistic about the possibility of bringing in a midfielder for six months on loan. Director Deco himself admitted that they were going to try, but financially it is practically impossible to sign a quality player at this point.

Jorginho, Guido Rodriguez were considered, but no-go

In the last few days, Barça evaluated some options such as that of Jorginho (Arsenal), but his signing was not considered feasible as the player would have to reduce his salary greatly and the club would not guarantee his continuity after the end of the season.

Within Spain, Real Betis star Guido Rodriguez was very much liked, but he is still injured, thus ruling out a move.

Instead, the idea is to give opportunities to the youngsters who are pushing hard from the lower levels within the club.

It could potentially mean greater game-time for players like Marc Casado, Unai Hernandez, and Aleix Garrido, all of whom are knocking on Xavi’s doors.
