Ivan Rakitić is set to exit Barcelona when the current season ends (whenever that may be), with the club having come to terms with that fact.
That’s according to a report in SPORT, who claim that the midfielder is nearing the end of his time at Camp Nou to return to former club Sevilla.
Although Rakitić still has a further season on his deal after this one, he has apparently made it clear that he wants to leave Barça after falling down the pecking order.
However, his motivation for leaving comes down to a willingness to return to a city which he still holds dear, meaning his preference is to join Sevilla.
He spent three-and-a-half years there and they are willing to bring him back to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, having already sounded out the 32-year-old about a move.
Barcelona will not stand in his way and will welcome the cash injection they would receive from a sale rather than lose him on a free upon the expiration of his deal.
Rakitić had the opportunity to join Juventus in January but ultimately rejected the opportunity to sign for the Italian champions.
