Barcelona readying moves for 2 targets as Xavi leans towards staying put | OneFootball

An update on developments behind the scenes at La Liga giants Barcelona has come to the fore on Monday evening.

The info surrounds the future of head coach Xavi, who is viewed as increasingly likely to go back on his word to depart come the close of the campaign.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have reiterated the claims pushed by Jijantes on Sunday that the efforts of the Barcelona brass to convince their headmaster to stay put appear to be working:

‘The FC Barcelona coach, who has one year left on his contract, is considering the possibility of changing his decision to leave the club at the end of the season,’ it is assured.

Why? His side’s evident improvement over recent months, as well as the support of both those behind the scenes in Catalunya, and widespread sections of Barca’s fanbase.

A meeting is understood to have been pencilled in between Xavi, Joan Laporta, Rafa Yuste and Deco, during which the parties will talk through the possibility of continuing their relationship into next season.

During the sit-down, Xavi will make clear that as much will be in no small part dependent on reinforcements arriving in his squad in the summer.

Negotiations for two such players whom the Spaniard would be keen to work with are already underway, in the form of Real Betis’ Guido Rodríguez, and RB Leipzig standout Dani Olmo.

Though an announcement regarding Xavi’s stay is not considered imminent, it should not come as a surprise if as much is forthcoming at some point over the next couple of weeks.
