The FC Barcelona and Nike logos have always appeared inseparable over the years, with their partnership seemingly progressing smoothly.

However, this year, cracks have surfaced between the two entities, with Barça not happy with the terms of the agreement.

And their deal is reportedly on the verge of collapsing after both parties failed to find common ground in a recent meeting.

Going solo

Now, according to SPORT, Barça are prepared to sever ties with Nike and start producing their own jerseys.

In the upcoming days, a final decision needs to be made, and Barcelona would be expected to develop a new brand for their shirts.

Everything suggests that Barcelona would establish their own brand to produce kits rather than enter into a contract with a third-party company once the partnership with Nike is broken.

Even though there were negotiations with Puma and links to Hummel, it appears that the Catalans are now giving serious thought about manufacturing their own kits moving forward.

In fact, Barça president Joan Laporta has already met with different companies that could help the club create its brand and design its jerseys.

Aiming for an amicable resolution

As things stand, Barça has low hopes for their future partnership with Nike. They do not think the US sporting goods giants will agree to the club’s demands, which include more money.

Still, the information argues that while Barcelona are on the verge of terminating their agreement with Nike, they would prefer to do so amicably.

Nike may file a breach of contract lawsuit against the club if they do not proceed in this manner.

However, Barcelona are certain that they would not have to face the repercussions of an American company suing them for a breach of contract, as they would not replace Nike with another brand but would create their own brand.

The Catalan giants firmly believe that if they create their own sports brand and, among other things, their own kits, they will generate more revenue than if they reach an agreement with an external party.

As reported previously, a resolution is expected before the end of March, one way or the other.
