Despite being Barcelona’s top transfer target for months, Luis Diaz has quickly turned into a forgotten name in Catalonia. Nico Williams has taken over as Barcelona’s preferred option and the player has no one to blame but his own entourage.

After catching the eye of Deco and Co. and having the privilege of being the Catalans’ preferred target, his environment was expected to press Liverpool for a departure and ease a potential transfer.

They, however, failed to do so while Nico Williams’ agent did precisely the same by offering his client’s services to Barcelona, and the Athletic Club star is now rightfully ahead on the team’s wishlist.

Diaz contacts Barcelona

Barcelona, in recent days, were reported to have hit a roadblock with the Athletic Club star over a transfer, especially with the player demanding written guarantees of his registration and incorporation.

Needless to say, the turn of events created an ever-so-small chance for Diaz once more.

As relayed by Mundo Deportivo, the Colombian star capitalised on the opportunity immediately and his entourage even reached out to Barcelona to inform them that he was still available and on the market.

There is not much hope that Barcelona will now turn away from Nico Williams and towards Diaz once more, especially after reports have brought out that their roadblock with the Spaniard has been sorted out.

Credit to Diaz, however, for fighting until the very end for a move to Catalonia.

Signing him would come with the perks of not having to pay the entire transfer fee upfront, but Barcelona also see Nico to be a youngster, and therefore a longer-term bet for the team.

As it stands, Barcelona are expected to trigger Nico’s release clause as early as this Friday as Hansi Flick wants the operation completed before pre-season begins. The coming days will be crucial in completing the big heist of the summer.
