A bombshell update on the future of Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati has come to the fore late this evening.

And the news will no doubt mark a heavy blow to all those who remained hopeful of the 21-year-old going on to play a central role in the club’s long-term plans.

Ansu, of course, was farmed out on loan last summer, linking up with Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion in an effort to rediscover his best form.

The initial hope was that, in the case of as much playing out, the Spanish international would return to base with Barcelona this coming summer, with a view to a place in the first-team setup at the Camp Nou next season.

Once more, however, the chronic fitness issues plaguing his fledgling career have thrown a spanner in the works.

Ansu has spent much of the campaign to date on the sidelines, meaning he is yet to return to the kind of level required to force his way back into the plans of his parent club.

And as much, it would appear, has given rise to a definitive decision on the part of the Barcelona brass.

As per a report from David Bernabeu Reverter of Diario Sport, as part of an in-depth dive into the Blaugrana’s summer plans, Deco and co. have made the call to cash in on Ansu.

Amid hopes of raising a sum in the region of €200 million through sales, the gifted attacker is one of a number of players set to be placed on the transfer market over the months ahead.
