There is not one normal day at FC Barcelona, and the last few weeks have thoroughly proven the same.

A lot has happened since Xavi announced his departure late in January after the defeat against Villarreal at home. The club have tried to seek a new manager, and made shortlists, but eventually decided that convincing the Spaniard to continue should be their top priority.

Barcelona have also gone on a winning spree since, but then lost back-to-back huge games against PSG and Real Madrid.

And while all of this has continued in the background, it seems like Xavi has decided to change his mind and continue as the coach of Barcelona.

And while Joan Laporta was always in favour of him staying, he needs explanations now.

As per a report from SER, since Xavi announced his departure without explaining anything beforehand, he must now answer two very important questions from Laporta before the Barça president takes the final call.

1. Can Barcelona compete for titles with this squad?

With Barcelona severely struggling for financial resources, reinforcing the squad has been very difficult for Xavi with his appropriate targets. And while the coach demands a few signings in the summer transfer window, the task seems rather difficult.

This was also presumably one of the reasons why Xavi decided to leave in the first place, with no guarantee that he would be able to go toe-for-toe with European giants like Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Now if Xavi chooses to continue he must explain whether this team is good enough for him to go into battle.

2. What made him change his mind?

If he answers in the affirmative to the first question, Laporta would want to know what made Xavi change his mind about his decision on multiple fronts.

The Spaniard seemed dissatisfied with his squad and wanted reinforcements. He also felt as if his work at the club as a coach was not appreciated enough.

This begs the question of whether he is now willing to continue just because the club cannot reach a mutual consensus over the new coach or does he actually have a plan of action for next season, when the stakes are going to be even higher.
