Memphis Depay’s future at Barcelona continues to remain uncertain as the summer transfer window in Spain looms.

The 28-year-old has been with the Blaugrana for a year now, having arrived on a Bosman deal last summer. Despite missing out on a chunk of matches in the early parts of 2022, the striker finished as Barça’s joint top scorer with 13 goals in all competitions.

Depay is believed to have made a solid impression on manager Xavi Hernandez and his coaching staff, who are happy to keep him at the club.

SPORT reports that the club officials met with Depay’s agents this past Monday and informed them the same. However, the Blaugrana also told the Dutchman’s representatives that the forward’s role could reduce if they sign their intended targets.

Given the situation, Barcelona would be open to selling Depay if a sizeable offer arrives for the former Manchester United ace. And as per the report, the La Liga heavyweights will seek a transfer fee of at least €20 million for him.

Depay, for his part, intends to continue at Barcelona, albeit in a prominent role. If that is not an option, he would consider an exit if a club comes up with a lucrative contract offer, considering that he reduced his wages to move to Camp Nou last year.

Furthermore, with this being a World Cup year, the 28-year-old wants to be a regular starter in the lineup, which might not be a possibility at Barcelona, leaving the door open for an exit.

The Netherlands international has courted interest from clubs in the Premier League and the Serie A. His contract with Barça expires in the summer of 2023.

As iterated earlier, the Blaugrana are happy to retain his services but will study important offers if they come in. If there are no proposals in sight, Barcelona will look to extend his contract beyond 2023 to protect his value.
