Barcelona had an eventful end to the January transfer window as they managed to register the new contract of Gavi while also coming so very close to signing Julian Araujo from LA Galaxy.

The 21-year-old Mexican right-back could still arrive at Camp Nou as FIFA is set to announce their decision on the transfer after Barça missed the deadline to file the paperwork for the move by 18 seconds.

At the same time, Barcelona were hot in pursuit of a new forward after the sale of Memphis Depay. The injury to Ousmane Dembele during the game against Girona only furthered their resolve to bring in a new attacker.

To that end, MARCA is reporting that Barcelona pressed hard until the end of the January window to sign Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco.

The two clubs had worked on an operation in the winter window which saw Depay leave Barça for Atleti. As part of the transfer, the Catalans secured a purchase option for Carrasco for a fee believed to be in the range of €15-20 million.

The Blaugrana had already made attempts to try and sign the Belgian international before the aforementioned agreement, but were denied by Atletico Madrid.

However, the injury to Dembele forced Barcelona to revisit the Carrasco option as they contacted the Rojiblancos to sign the winger on loan until the end of the season.

But, there was no moving Atletico Madrid from their stance as they firmly insisted that Carrasco would not be allowed to leave in the winter window.

After trying hard to sign the Belgian until late in the window, Barcelona moved their focus towards Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina to reinforce their midfield. But that deal also would not materialise as the Serie A giants were unwilling to relent on their terms for the Moroccan.
