Earlier this month, reports emerged claiming that FC Barcelona were being investigated by UEFA over potential breaches of the Financial Fair Play regulations for a second time.
If found guilty, the La Liga champions could face strict sanctions such as a restriction on the number of players the club can register for the Champions League or even a deduction of points during the league phase next season.
As such, Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, and Rafael Louzan, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), have joined forces in the club’s efforts to avoid a possible UEFA sanction for breaching Fair Play rules, according to The Times (h/t AS).
Barcelona maintain they are calm about the situation and insist that no official communication has been received.

However, they are aware that UEFA applies different criteria to how financial mechanisms – such as the so-called “economic levers” that Laporta activated back in 2022 – are accounted for.
With that in mind, Laporta travelled to Munich on Sunday, to attend the Nations League final. There, he held a private conversation with UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin to gauge the situation and explore where the matter currently stands.
The Barcelona chief has the full support of RFEF president Louzan, who maintains a cordial relationship with Ceferin. In fact, Laporta flew to Munich aboard the RFEF’s aircraft.
It must be noted that UEFA fined Barcelona €500,000 for misreporting profits in the 2022 financial year back in 2023.
With Laporta meeting with Ceferin to understand the issue and potentially smooth things over, it remains to be seen how the situation evolves.
