Barcelona will soon present contract renewal to versatile star – report | OneFootball

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, it has come to light that Barcelona will soon send a contract renewal proposal to key defender Eric Garcia.

With the club opting not to sign a new right-back this summer, Garcia has become even more important in the eyes of manager Hansi Flick, who sees him as a key figure for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

Garcia’s current deal runs until 2026, but the club is keen to avoid letting him enter the final year of his contract.

Although formal negotiations have not yet started, sources close to the club say that Barcelona are planning to open talks very soon. There is mutual interest in reaching an agreement, and Flick has already approved the renewal.

Important player for Flick and Barcelona

During the 2024/25 season, Garcia proved to be one of the most reliable and flexible options in Flick’s squad. When Marc Casado picked up an injury, the former Manchester City defender stepped in as a holding midfielder.

Later in the season, he covered as a right-back when Jules Kounde was unavailable. Across all three roles, centre-back, right-back, and defensive midfielder, Garcia delivered strong performances.

He ended the campaign with 45 appearances, five goals, and three assists, playing a total of 2,108 minutes.

Girona tried to bring Garcia back on loan in January, but Flick personally convinced him to stay. That decision has paid off, and now Barcelona want to reward his commitment.

Although some media outlets have speculated about a new three-year deal, no formal offer has been made yet.

Still, the club hopes to wrap things up before the start of pre-season on July 13. Garcia is also eager to resolve his future quickly, as he feels fully integrated into the squad and has become one of the leaders in the dressing room.

With both sides aligned, a renewal appears to be a matter of time.
