Barcelona will already welcome Frenkie de Jong to the club in the summer and he could be joined by another Dutch starlet.
Barça, along with a host of top European clubs, have been heavily linked with a move for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt for a number of months now.
And now Blaugrana president Josep Maria Bartomeu has come straight out and admitted that the Camp Nou club have been tracking the 19-year-old, who has been dubbed the ‘new Jaap Stam’.
“We have followed De Ligt for a while,” Bartomeu told Radio Kanal.
“It’s true he’s a player we like, but Barça also have other important players in the squad.
“We will look at more things from March or April. We’re delighted to watch him play and admire him, but there’s nothing more at the moment.”
Barcelona signed defender Jeison Murillo on loan from Valencia in January before adding French starlet Jean-Clair Todibo in the final hours of the window.
But if they do want to add De Ligt to their defensive ranks in the summer, they may be forced to pay even more than the €75m they spent on his current team-mate De Jong.
