However, he is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer with his current deal expiring at the end of this month.

The Catalans failed to sign Lionel Messi, who has joined Major League Soccer club Inter Miami.

According to Mundo Deportivo, they will complete a deal for Gundogan over the next few days.

Barcelona sealed the La Liga title for the first time since 2019 last term, but their performances in Europe were highly disappointing.

Manager Xavi Hernandez is keen to sign a new midfielder to add more quality and depth to his squad.

Gundogan will turn 33 in October this year, but he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

The German moved to Manchester City in 2016 following his excellent performances at Borussia Dortmund.

He established himself as an important member of the team, racking up over 300 senior appearances for the club.

The experienced midfielder posted impressive statistics this season, averaging 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.9 long balls per game in the Premier League. He also boasted 88 percent passing accuracy.

French champions Paris-Saint Germain have reportedly joined the race for the 32-year-old, but he looks destined to join Barcelona.
