Barcelona not considering summer exit for key veteran – report

Barcelona have a relatively young team at their disposal right now, with Lamine Yamal directing the attack, Pau Cubarsi commanding the defence, and Pedri-Gavi running the show in midfield.

Even the relatively older players, such as Robert Lewandowski, Ilkay Gundogan, and Marcos Alonso are not tenured at Barcelona.

In fact, there are only two players in the entire Barcelona squad who have served over five years with the senior team – captain Sergi Roberto, and vice-captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The former has been a part of the setup since 2010, and the latter since 2014. However, both their futures have been put into question over the last couple months.

Reports had claimed that while Roberto could continue given that Barcelona are ready to offer him a contract extension, Girona are interested in signing him.

As for the latter, though, the German has garnered interest from Saudi Arabia, who are ready to offer the players a massive salary boost, and Barcelona, a nice sum as transfer fee.

Barcelona want to keep ter Stegen

While Barcelona will be desperate to sell players in the summer in an attempt to return to the 1:1 rule, it seems they are considering an exit for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, as per a report from Mundo Deportivo.

The German is an integral part of the squad as the vice-captain and someone who is close to completing a decade’s worth of seasons at the club.

And while his performances have come into scrutiny this season, Barcelona will likely not have enough money to sort out a replacement for him in the summer, with the money allocated to sign a top pivot, a central midfielder, a full-back, and possibly a left-winger.

Further, Barcelona’s coaching staff appreciate ter Stegen for his experience, leadership, and ball-playing ability, and do not want him to leave as early as this summer.
