Barcelona midfielder Gavi is undeniably a fiery player who plays with intense passion. His commitment on the pitch is clear as he approaches every ball with full determination, often putting his body on the line.

Problem with his aggression

Over the past few matches, Gavi has accumulated three yellow cards in just four games against Benfica, Alaves, and Sevilla. This disciplinary issue became more prominent during the Sevilla match when Barcelona manager Hansi Flick had to substitute him at half-time.

His decision was clear: Gavi was already on a yellow card, and the coach did not want to risk further reckless play that could lead to a red card or a suspension.

While Gavi’s fiery style of play has sometimes caused problems, it is also the same quality that has allowed him to showcase his skills. He had a fantastic run leading up to the Sevilla game, where he played a key role in the Super Cup.

Still an important player

Gavi scored and assisted in the semi-final against Athletic Club and helped earn a penalty in the final. His excellent performance continued with a strong showing in the Copa del Rey against Betis and in Barcelona’s final game of the year against Atlético Madrid.

However, Gavi’s aggressive playing style has put Flick in a difficult position. The challenge for the coach is to help Gavi control his fiery temperament without stifling the very qualities that make him such an effective player.

It is a tough balancing act, as Gavi’s energetic, no-nonsense approach is part of his identity on the pitch. While Gavi needs to maintain his intensity, he is also aware that unchecked aggression could cost him valuable game time.
