Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is on a shortlist of defenders Barcelona could try to sign in January.
At least, that’s according to The Mirror, who claim Barça need emergency defensive cover after Samuel Umtiti was sent to Qatar for treatment on the knee injury which has restricted him to just eight appearances this season.
The Catalan club will reportedly ask for Kompany on loan and if their bid is rejected, they could also go for 34-year-old former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanović – who now plays for Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Kompany – who is still only 32 – has made 10 appearances for City in all competitions this season, but the Belgian is behind John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nicolás Otamendi in the defensive pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.
The Blaugrana are also said to have looked into the possibility of signing David Luiz or Andreas Christensen from Chelsea, but have decided against making a move for either player.
The Mirror also claim City, Chelsea and Tottenham are interested in signing Real Madrid’s Isco in the summer. The Spaniard looks destined to leave the Bernabéu after falling out with Los Blancos boss Santiago Solari.
