Manchester City take on Nottingham Forest today at Wembley in the second FA Cup semi-final. The winner of today’s match will take in Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final after their emphatic 3-nil win over Aston Villa yesterday.
For Pep Guardiola’s side, today is their seventh consecutive FA Cup semi-final. They’ll be looking to make their third consecutive FA Cup final. But they’ll face a quality Nottingham Forest side who have defied expectations this season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side also plays in a manner that could pose problems for Pep Guardiola’s side today.
A big occasion awaits and here is the latest City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven for today’s match.
Manchester City enters today’s match with Nathan Ake, Oscar Bobb and John Stones definitely out of today’s match. The expectation is that Rodri, Erling Haaland and Ederson will all join them on the sidelines. However, there has been positive news on their recovery from injury in recent days.
Ederson remains a chance of playing in today’s match as per Pep Guardiola’s update on Friday. Guardiola revealed that Ederson had trained ahead of today’s match. But as per Guardiola’s update, it appears that Ederson could be in contention to return for City’s next Premier League fixture.
James McAtee is suspended for today’s match after picking up two yellow cards in the competition. He could return for the final if City make it.
It also emerged yesterday that Erling Haaland and Rodri trained with their teammates yesterday. But it is expected that today’s match will likely come too soon for either player to feature at Wembley. But it is good news for Manchester City to have the pair on the comeback trail.
Stefan Ortega- With Ederson likely out of today’s match I expect Ortega to start in goal.
Matheus Nunes- Nunes scored the late winner against Aston Villa and should start today. His pace may be crucial against Callum Hudson-Odoi and company.
Ruben Dias- It would be a surprise if Dias didn’t start today. His leadership will be vital at the back today.
Josko Gvardiol- An automatic selection at centre-back in my opinion.
Nico O’Reilly- O’Reilly should be one of the first names on the team sheet today. He’s earned the right to start such a big game.
Nico- It’s out of Nico or Kovacic to start in midfield but I think Nico will get an opportunity to Start.
Ilkay Gundogan- I’m expecting the ‘uncs’ to resume in midfield today. That should see Gundogan start.
Bernardo Silva- Bernardo was vital in City’s win over Aston Villa. He’ll have an important role to play today as well.
Kevin De Bruyne- The scene is set for a vintage De Bruyne performance. If he can deliver one it could decide today’s match.
Jeremy Doku- With James McAtee out suspended Doku deserves to start today’s match.
Omar Marmoush- Another player who will have a massive role to play at Wembley. If Marmoush fires, City should win so that’s his challenge today.
